For Sale IconNWA 16009 CK3 Carbonaceous Chondrite Meteorites for Sale

Location: Sahara Desert, exact location unknown.

Purchased: February 2023.

Classification: CK3 Carbonaceous Chondrite Meteorite.

Description: Petrography : Well-defined unequilibrated chondrules (some with multiple rims, apparent diameter 1070±380 µm, N = 25) containing Cr-bearing magnetite, together with irregularly shaped, very fine grained polymineralic objects and very rare CAI, are set in a fine grained recrystallized matrix (~25 vol.%, brown in thin section) containing Cr-bearing magnetite, pentlandite, Ni-free Fe metal and minor secondary barite. One small CAI contains olivine, clinopyroxene and anorthite. The unusual but distinctive polymineralic objects are relatively abundant, and are essentially the same as those described in more detail in NWA 16003. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa 18.4±13.5 , range Fa 3.2-38.5 , N = 14), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs 3.6±3.2 Wo 1.0±0.4 , range Fs 1.3-9.0 Wo 0.8-1.6 , N = 5), pigeonite (Fs 21.6 Wo 6.9 ), subcalcic augite (Fs 1.4 Wo 29.7 ), diopside (Fs 1.5±0.2 Wo 39.1±1.4 , range Fs 1.4-1.8 Wo 37.7-40.8 , N = 4), plagioclase (Ab 76.3-82.8 An 22.6-15.7 Or 1.1-1.5 , N = 3), magnetite (Cr 2 O 3 1.9-4.3 wt.%, N = 9), anorthite in CAI (An 93.2 Or 0.1 ). Classification : Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3). The Cr 2 O 3 contents of magnetites are intermediate between the accepted ranges for CVox3 chondrites and CK3 chondrites. The presence of unusual polymineralic clasts not present in either of those meteorite groups is noteworthy. This material is almost certainly paired with NWA 16003 based on the very similar textures, mineral compositions and especially the presence of unusual, texturally and mineralogically very distinctive polymineralic clasts.
