Type: Rumuruti Chondrite (R3-5)
Description: Petrography: Complex breccia composed of discrete well-formed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 570±230 µm, N = 24) and a variety of lithic chondrite clasts (of petrologic types 3, 4 and 5) set in a fine grained matrix (pale orange in thin section) containing accessory pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chromite, ilmenite and sodic plagioclase, plus rare chalcopyrite and Cr-bearing magnetite. Geochemistry : Olivine (Fa 31.4±17.8 , range Fa 1.8-51.7 , N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs 20.0±13.9 Wo 1.6±0.7 , range Fs 2.9-31.7 Wo 0.8-2.6 , N = 4), diopside (Fs 2.8±1.3 Wo 40.8±2.9 , range Fs 1.8-3.7 Wo 42.8-38.7 , N = 2), plagioclase (Ab 83.8 An 11.7 Or 4.5 ), magnetite (Cr 2 O 3 1.6 wt.%). Classification : R3-5 chondrite breccia.
